About this event

Topic: Insider threats in the New Zealand public service

The Counter Fraud Centre at the Serious Fraud Office in conjunction with the Finance Development Programme are hosting three lunchtime webinars, highlighting the risk and impacts of fraud and good practice methods for its prevention. This is session one of three lunchtime webinars.

Historically low levels of corruption have led New Zealanders to become complacent about the insider threat of fraud and corruption risks to their organisation. Employers often focus on fraud from external threats and overlook that they need to manage the fraud risks created by insiders – either by those who might commit fraud or through enabling weaknesses within systems designed to mitigate risks, deliberately or inadvertently. An important factor in protecting an organisation is its culture.

Presenters:

• Bill Moses, the Public Service Commission’s Chief Digital Officer

• Ken Warren, the Treasury’s Chief Accounting Advisor

• Caroline Milligan, the NZDF’s Senior Strategist

Will be covering what to look out for and how to mitigate the risk of being targeted by a malicious insider.

This forum is free, with attendance counted towards professional development for CAANZ, CPA and other professional bodies for up to 1 hour.

Please note: This is a virtual event, the event link that will be sent to you closer to the event.

If you register and are no longer able to attend - please contact us at least 24 hours before the event.

The Finance Development Programme (FDP)

The Finance Development Programme (FDP) supports your development by harnessing the opportunities and resources we have available to us as a diverse, complex and interesting state sector wide organisation.

As part of the FDP, we offer forums for the all of Government Finance Profession community as well as forums covering content which is tailored to the three different cohorts:

Early in Finance Career (EIFC)- for those who are within their first 4 years in a finance role

Senior Finance Leaders (SFL) – for direct reports of CFOs

Experienced Finance Professionals (EFP) – for those who are further than 4 years into their finance journey but who are not direct reports to CFOs

These forums are designed to provide free development tailored to the needs and objectives of the state sector, with an opportunity for people to connect with others across the function. Attendance counts towards your CPD hours.
