Head along to the first Tauranga Innovation Skills event, happening on November 2nd, 2015.

New Zealand is a land full of product innovators: from Norma McCulloch's Breath of Life Resuscitator, to Peter Beck's Rutherford Liquid Engine and Ayla Hutchinson's Kindling Cracker. Forged from a pioneering history where innovation was key to survival, this country contains some of the world’s most independent, forward-thinking minds.

Our experience with a number of New Zealand’s most exciting manufacturers shows us that despite their diversity of products and markets, many of these firms face surprisingly similar challenges and barriers to growth. Despite our ingenuity, our problems are often more deeply connected than our responses.

Velox Innovation, with support from Callaghan Innovation and PDMA-NZ, are developing the Innovation Skills initiative - high impact sessions where the nation’s top product development practioners can collaborate and share knowledge about specific product and commercialisation barriers. CEO's, engineers, entrepreneurs, managers and domain experts

We are specifically looking for real practitioners for this initiative - product managers, engineers, CEO's, industrial designers and entrepreneurs developing high value products and services. Is this you?

These discussions are being held across New Zealand, and will use the popular 'fishbowl' format to maximise the diversity of participants whilst maintaining the focus on tangible learnings and actionable outcomes. News and information from the various sessions is available through our Innovation Skills Linkedin group, with a dedicated platform being rolled out in the near future.

Benefits of involvement are many: insights regarding complex problems, information shared about the newest trends and methodologies, access to national and global experts, and networking with a diverse group of innovators.

Please help us shape the direction of this initiative, and join our discussion on the future of product innovation in New Zealand.

These events are held as open forum discussions in "fishbowl" format, with a real problem chosen as the topic of discussion.

What Is "Fishbowl" Format?
A "fishbowl" style session sees five chairs placed in the middle of a room, with attendees asked to take up places on four of the chairs (the fifth chair left empty). Conversation focused around a specific kiwi innovation problem is then discussed between only the four seat holders, with the rest of the room listening.
When an attendee from outside of the circle feels compelled to enter the conversation, they can take up the empty fifth chair, and an existing member of the circle leaves. This format allows for any member of the event to share their insights and experiences with the group.
Innovation Skills Linkedin Group
All information regarding this event, the outcomes, future events, and interesting innovation news is shared through the Innovation Skills group on Linkedin. The goal of this group is to support potent conversations around innovation, insights, cross pollinating of ideas, understanding of problems, and the meeting of like-minded individuals for support and collaboration, without the constraints of geography and time. Innovation Skills events have now occurred in Auckland, Dunedin and Christchurch, with more dates and locations released regularly.
