So you're thinking about joining a NZ tech startup? That's totally wicked
A group of tech startups are hosting an event especially for talented kiwis. If you are really good at what you do and you want to work for a company that is genuinely changing the world, then all you have to do is come along to this event and introduce yourself to the founders.
We have one event in Auckland and another event in Wellington (click here).
Each of the startups below will pitch their startup to you in 10 minutes and explain the roles they are hiring for and what a killer candidate will have. If this sounds like you, introduce yourself to the founder of that startup, and drop your business card in their box.
Microsoft's BizSpark program (more info click here) for startups has generously given us a venue to host this event, and are providing pizza and drinks. Thank you for your support of the NZ tech startup ecosystem.
Copono. Whether you want to buy healthy, ethical or sustainable products, you’re going to need information. Copono is an app that provides you with the information you want to know about the products you want to buy. Our app is super simple, and makes complex decision a no-brainer for consumers - so they can be who they want to be. We’re looking for:
Mobile Development Specialist. You will have experience storing and processing big data. You have a specific focus on mobile and want to shape the way people use their phones to search. You are interested in being a leader and taking responsibility for the development of a product, but you’re not afraid to get your hands dirty with code. You are an advocate of open source and are active in the community.
Made on Jupiter invents apps that bridge the divide between designer, engineer and consumer. The team is developing Spoke Creator: a powerful 3D modeler that runs entirely in the browser. Spoke delivers engineering-grade 3D models on one end, and lets consumers play with the very same model, in an easy-to-use browser configurator. MoJ is focusing on advanced surfboards configuration now, in collaboration with an important manufacturer. The longer view is a social/collaborative platform for creation and sharing of any physical design.
Web development. MoJ is looking for at least one senior all-round web developer to join on a more permanent basis, medium term, to grow from a part-time engagement into a CTO position. Keen interest in our cause & digital fabrication, some background in engineering and/or 3D software, and strong aesthetic judgement required. MoJ is keen to work with a variety of web experts on a range of development projects: node graph (SVG), 3D viewer (WebGL, Unity3d), payment architecture (PayPal), a modest project management module (think Trello), and the whole backend to make it all run (currently SQL/Ubuntu/EC2). Familiarity with CoffeeScript, HAML, Unity3d (C#) is a plus. The Rails vs Python discussion is still raging :)
Business development. MoJ has clients & a product, but needs help with strategy, following up leads and generally courting the business world. Keen to meet extrovert, slightly technically oriented, business-savvy people who are genuinely interested in our cause. For mentoring, or on a track to become part of MoJ.
Snackle. Snackle helps brands to interact with customers for a longer period of time and increase brand exposure. A brand can launch online promotions and invite multiple brands to participate creating digital journeys which are both fun and interactive for participating consumers.
Biomatters creates software used by molecular biology researchers worldwide in their daily work. Our flagship desktop application, Geneious (www.geneious.com), is like a Swiss Army knife for molecular biologists. It has a broad toolkit of data management, and computational algorithms to enhance researchers’ impact by converting raw data into meaning-dense, visual information. Our next phase of growth begins with the Molecular Profiler (www.molecularprofiler.com): a new genomics analysis platform to tackle the challenges of gonzo data sets with modern cloud infrastructure and web app technologies. Beautifully rendered, remotely managed, securely delivered genomic analysis.
Cloud architects and backend developers. We like AWS. We like OpenStack. We like big data streamed over tubes for crunching or for visualization, on public and private networks. We like secure, scalable data storage and loosely federated databases. We like clusters that appear on command and disappear when they’re idle. We like auto-deploying, self-healing, horizontally scalable. We like hyperbole.
Web application developers. We like MVC frameworks that let us deliver responsive applications with big iron on one side, and a variety of client devices on t’other.
Mixed desktop/mobile front-end developers. We like desktop web apps with high information density and precision interactions. We like mobile apps that operate on the same data with appropriately limited functionality. We like it to perform like native, look great, and feel even better.
Genomics domain experts. We like ‘omic data. We like polyomic, translational views of cancer biology, companion diagnostics, and targeted drug discovery. We like cutting edge data types in massive quantities. We like building products that we know will make users swoon.
To all other startup looking for co-founders and employees, after the event an email will be sent to all attendees who opt-in. In this email, we will happily include the details of your startup and what you're looking for. Please contact Justin (justin(at)copono.com) to be part of this email.
