Like many other organisations that have taken a precautionary approach when it comes to public events (with many of them hosting less than 500 people), we have decided to follow suit and postpone the Kai Iwi Lakes Open Day 2020 in light of the recent COVID-19 developments.

We feel that we can't justify running an event like this where it is hard to track visitors and assess visitor numbers up front, along with many other unknown factors, involving activities in and around the water in close proximity.

Thank you everyone for all your dedication to supporting EMR through our events and any inconvenience this decision may cause.

We will aim to hold the Open Day at a later date and are hoping we can run it in a very similar way to the event planned on Saturday, but we will be in touch with all stallholders and other relevant stakeholders when it comes to finding a new date. Much of this depends on the news and developments over the next few weeks.

Explore the beautiful Taharoa Lake at Pine Beach and discover tuna/eels, bullies and dwarf īnanga whilst enjoying the crystal clear waters of the Kai Iwi Lakes. This event is funded by Foundation North and is a part of Sea Week. Recommended for everyone 5 years and up. Experienced guides and advanced safety procedures will be in place on the day.

Experiencing Marine Reserves runs a series of free and subsidised events over the summer months that rely on public support to make them happen. We appreciate donations to participate, either cash or eftpos on the day, online or by giving a koha of your time volunteering at a future event. Most people donate $5-10pp.
