In New York, Instituto Cervantes started operating as a cultural non-profit in 1994. Since then it has been a vibrant center of culture, learning and social life in Manhattan, offering Spanish courses for all levels and an ambitious cultural program that provides the latest cultural manifestations of the Spanish-speaking world.Instituto Cervantes New York (ICNY) works in collaboration with other institutions in organizing cultural activities such as lectures, book presentations, concerts, art exhibits, and other events.Located in ICNY, Jorge Luis Borges Library provides convenient access to a wide selection of literature in Spanish as well as videos of the most important films produced in the Spanish language. Also, the library has an ancillary material for the teaching of Spanish as a foreign language.Instituto Cervantes New York is the leading coordinator of the North-American network of centers that includes Albuquerque, Boston, Chicago centers and the Seattle and Calgary classrooms.
