ABOUT THE COMPETITION

The Royal NZ Institute of Horticulture Education Trust in conjunction with Young Horticulturist official partners; AGMARDT, T&G, Fruitfed Supplies and Countdown are proud to announce the launch of the 2019 Young Horticulturist competition. The competition recognises and celebrates excellence in people under the age of 30 employed in the horticulture industry.

THE 2019 YOUNG HORTICULTURIST COMPETITION PRIZE POOL THE GRAND FINAL PRIZES

1ST PRIZE:

$7,500 Travel and accommodation package.$1,000 ICL Specialty Fertilisers. A one year membership of The New Zealand Institute of Agricultural & Horticultural Science(NZIAHS). A selection of Aorangi Merchant products.

2ND PRIZE:

$5,500 Massey University study scholarship, $750 ICL Specialty Fertilisers. A one year membership of The New Zealand Institute of Agricultural & Horticultural Science (NZIAHS).

3RD PRIZE: $1,000 Cash, $500 ICL Specialty Fertilisers. A one year membership of The New Zealand Institute of Agricultural & Horticultural Science (NZIAHS).

AGMARDT MARKET INNOVATION PROJECT PRIZES

1st Prize:$5,000

2nd Prize: $2,500

3rd Prize: $1,500

Consolation prizes of $500 for each completed project.

T&G PRACTICAL COMPONENTS AWARD

The finalist who receives the best overall score for the practical components in the Grand Final receives a $3,500 travel scholarship.

FRUITFED SUPPLIES LEADERSHIP AWARD

The finalist who demonstrates outstanding leadership during the competition receives a $2,500 scholarship towards a Leadership or Outward Bound course.

COUNTDOWN AWARD

$500 award per finalist for perseverance and commitment to the competition.

BAYER BEST PRACTICE AWARD

The finalist who receives the highest score in a range of Grand Final activities with a focus on crop management and sustainability practices receives a $2,500 scholarship.

PRIMARY ITO CAREER DEVELOPMENT AWARD

The winner receives a $3,000 scholarship, to assist with further study or to attend a conference, and is adopted as a Primary ITO ambassador to promote training and career pathways in horticulture.

HORTICENTRE TRUST COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT AWARD

The winner receives a $1500 cash prize.
