Background

Right now many things are changing our food system – climate change, new food from different places, lab-grown food, consumer expectations, pressure on natural resources, and complex trade settings – which means New Zealand’s world-class food safety system needs to adapt.

New Zealand Food Safety (Haumaru Kai Aotearoa), a business unit of the Ministry for Primary Industries, has developed a draft strategy so it can continue to deliver for New Zealand consumers, food businesses, our trading partners and New Zealand.

New Zealand Food Safety wants to be a future focused organisation that is clear about how it will remain agile and resilient under these challenges.

Consultation

New Zealand Food Safety wants to hear from you about your wants, needs and expectations of the food safety system.

Whether you own a food business, buy or produce New Zealand food, you're part of hapū/iwi with interests in kai, or you simply enjoy cooking and eating - your feedback to this consultation will be important in shaping the final strategy.

Consultation runs from 2-27 September with eight public meetings held across New Zealand. Everyone has the opportunity to get involved. You can register to attend a public meeting by clicking the green Register button.
