Event description
COVID, interest limitation and God knows what else

About this event

Are you overwhelmed by all the property market uncertainties and regulatory changes?

Do you have an inkling that property is still the right investment for you if only there is good guidance to help you make the right choices?

How is it ever really property investing if a significant portion of your cash return hinges on the government's whim?

Don't you just wish someone could hit that 'pause' button so you can work through everything one step at a time?

Let's face it, 2021 has truly knocked many investors for six. Much of the sector is still scrambling to make sense of the interplay between COVID, market pressures and government intervention. Conditions (Interest limitation! Lockdown! Possible DTI!) are such that some investors have arrived at that critical make-or-break point - if no serious profit is to be made in the near future, the only alternative is to sell up. Don't let that be you!

The Auckland Property Investors' Association proudly presents Acing the 'new normal' - a one-day seminar designed to help investors navigate the challenging aspects of interest limitation, COVID and other would-be regulatory changes. The presentations will help you answer the following questions:

- What exactly do interest limitation and the new bright-line entail and how do I minimise the impacts they will have on my cash flow?

- Are we on the right track to solving the housing crisis and how do I, as an investor, contribute to the solution?

- Does the 'old way' of investing still work or is it time to get back to the drawing board?

- What aspects of my portfolio should I be reviewing and what are the new metrics I should be measuring my progress against?

- Do I have to invest in new builds to get ahead?

- If so, how do I avoid buying a lemon?

- How do I get out of the dog-pack and start running with the wolves?

The presentations at this seminar include:

The great NZ housing crisis: the blind spots that hold us back and the solutions that will propel us forward by Dr Oliver Hartwich, Executive Director of the New Zealand Initiative

On the up: the effects rising inflation and interest rates will have on the housing market by Brad Olsen, Principal Economist and Director of Infometrics

Housing and economic outlook by Tony Alexander, Independent economist

NZ Housing: Winners and losers by Nick Goodall, Head of Research at CoreLogic New Zealand

Unpacking interest limitation and new bright-line by Glen Gernhoefer, Director of Shortland Chartered Accountants

Portfolio structuring in light of the new normal by Kristine King, Director of DK Law and Stephan Tsang, Director of Withers Tsang

Getting ahead against the backdrop of tighter government control by David Whitburn, Director of Whitburn Group

ACT’s approach to taxation through the lens of housing by Brooke van Velden, Deputy Leader of the ACT Party

Securing funding in the current market by Kris Pedersen, Director of Kris Pedersen Mortgages
