About the lecture:

‘Will in the Web: How Computers are Shaping Shakespeare’.

William Shakespeare's works have always been amongst the first to be adapted to new technologies and media. In this lecture, Dr Brett Greatley-Hirsch surveys the myriad (and often surprising) ways in which computers have shaped, and continue to shape, how we experience and understand Shakespeare, from digital textuality and performances in virtual or augmented reality to 3D reconstructions of now-lost playhouses and AI-driven investigations into questions of authorship.

About the speaker:

Professor Brett Greatley-Hirsch from the University of Leeds is the Dr Alice Griffin Fellow in Shakespearean Studies for 2025. He’s a younger scholar, originally from Australia, with expertise in Shakespeare, early modern drama and digital editing. He's Professor of Renaissance Literature and Textual Studies at the University of Leeds.
