Event description
In this Innovation Series events, we will look at alternatives energies on farm

About this Event

The environmental cost of energy for transport, electricity and production of energy is about 40% of Aotearoa New Zealand’s gross greenhouse gas emissions. Over 80% of energy is produced from renewable sources, but high costs of emerging technologies such as EV and solar are barriers for many of our farmers and growers looking to transition to more sustainable systems of production.

The true impact of agriculture on energy emissions is hard to quantify – it is easier to measure energy use on-farm, but much more difficult when trying to account for energy use across the food supply chain. Transport and distribution have high energy costs, especially when considering 95% of all food produced in Aotearoa is exported.

Wind farms, hydro, biogas and solar energy offer promises of self-sufficiency and self-reliance, but can innovation take place with existing infrastructure, or will it require an entire change to the farming, transport and distribution system?

Join us to be part of the conversation and uncover tools that are available now and what could be possible as we look ahead to land-use change.
