Robert Watson established Robert Watson Landscape Architects Ltd in Christchurch in 1983. Since then, the practice has undertaken a wide range of landscape projects across New Zealand, spanning residential, public, and commercial environments. Robert Watson has been at 65 Cambridge Terrace since 1997, when Ian Athfield’s office and he moved in after Warren & Mahoney moved out.

Originally trained in law, Robert later completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Landscape Architecture at Lincoln University, combining analytical precision with creative design insight.

His work has been recognised with numerous accolades, including a Gold Award at the 2009 Ellerslie International Flower Show for a garden designed for the Canterbury Horticultural Society. Broadfields Garden, a New Zealand Garden Trust Garden of International Significance, was also a finalist in the 2015 NZILA Awards.
