The Centre for Transdisciplinary Research and Innovation at the Waikato Institute of Technology and Land Information New Zealand are pleased to bring you “Geo4Social – An Introduction to Geospatial Information”

This practical session is for anyone wanting to learn more about using Geospatial Information, and working in the Social Sectors including health, education, youth and related fields. Staff from community services and related NGO’s are also encouraged to attend.

After attending this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Understand and describe geospatial concepts such as layers
  • Find and access useful datasets such as Census demographics and the NZ Deprivation Indices.
  • Geolocate a client address list, describe and analyse geographic access to services.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the opportunities and potential benefits for an organisation.

Draft Agenda:

  • Understanding geospatial concepts.
  • Find, access and use geospatial information services, sites and resources.
  • Make a map, share it online, visualise data from other sources.
  • Geolocate a list using addresses and analyse service areas.

Requirements:

Access a Gmail account (and know your password).
