Your facilitator: Selena Hinchco.

Selena is an experienced education consultant and school leader with expertise in Assessment for Learning (AfL) and the Science of Learning (SoL). Her interest in the Science of Learning started several years ago due to the strong links she saw with her work as an Assessment for Learning facilitator.

Selena’s AfL journey started over 20 years ago with her AfL focused Master’s research into the use of rubrics as a formative tool in the classroom. This led to her becoming an AfL facilitator at Evaluation Associates, with Micheal Absolum. Later, she moved to Cognition Education where she delivered the Visible Learning Plus programme (based on John Hattie’s Visible Learning research) in New Zealand, Australia, Malaysia and the UAE. Later Selena became the Cognition Education Auckland Regional Manager leading a team of 10 education consultants.

Post COVID, after a few years pet sitting around Europe with her husband Brian, Selena is now an independent Education Consultant. In 2024 she completed the La Trobe University “The Science of Learning for Effective Teaching” course with Dr Nathanial Swain (author of “Harnessing the Science of Learning”).
