About Our Speaker

Assoc. Prof. Juan C. Serpa

Juan Camilo is the founder of the Sustainability Academic Network (SUSAN) at SUSANhub.com, the largest sustainability social network in academia. SUSAN a platform designed to unite sustainability researchers, institutes, students, and organizations in the fight against climate change. SUSAN enables users to post and share datasets, academic papers, conferences, job postings, local events, and grants related to sustainability. These resources are categorized across a range of themes, including solar energy, mining, and circular economies. Through SUSAN, users can explore thousands of datasets, research papers, conferences, job opportunities, grants, and institutes, all dedicated to advancing sustainability

He is also the founding director of the Data Mangrove Institute (datamangrove.com), an organization that leverages data analytics to support biodiversity NGOs operating in Costa Rica and the Amazon Rainforest. His work centers on advancing digital transformation to empower these organizations in their conservation efforts. Among his various initiatives in Costa Rica, he developed Mono-SOS.com, a platform designed to assist in the rescue of monkeys and other wildlife injured on Costa Rican roads. This project utilizes data-driven approaches to identify optimal locations for building canopy bridges and road infrastructure improvements, facilitating safer crossings for fauna.
