Art and Activism - A Hands-on Workshop
Overview
A hands-on day of zines, printing, kōrero and workshops using creativity for climate and community action.
Join us for a day of hands-on workshops and collective action, using sustainable and upcycled materials to spark new ideas and conversations. You’ll have the chance to dive into poster and banner making, street art, zine creation, plus poetry.
Alongside shared kai, collaborative spaces, and displays of activist art, this event is all about connecting community, creativity, and change. Together, we’ll build momentum for ongoing projects that will continue throughout the year, leading to a powerful end-of-year exhibition.
Guest Facilitators:
Salsano (Ngāi Tūhoe, Te Aitanga-a-Māhaki, Ngāti Porou, and Ngāti Wairere) will share a selection of her banners as inspiration, guiding participants to explore the tactile practice of textile banner-making. Participants will be encouraged to let the fabrics speak to them, shaping their own unique personal and artivist expressions (please bring fabric)
Aimee-Jane Anderson-O'Connor (Kāi Tahu, Clan Anderson, Clan O’Connor) invites you to make zines. Whether you are new to making zines, or a seasoned zinester, there will be plenty to play with, and a friendly face to help you get on a roll. This shared creative space will invite kōrero and wānanga, allowing messages to unfold organically through patterns, ideas, and touch. Participants will be encouraged to let the fabrics speak to them, shaping their own unique personal and artivist expressions.
