Description

Public lecture by Distinguished Visitor, Professor Daniel Borrajo, Universidad Carlos III de Madrid

Artificial intelligence. Fear or love?

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is currently generating huge expectations and a lengthy debate. This debate is taking place both at the technical level, and in society at large.

In this talk, we will cover some basic technical areas of AI and where they can be useful. We will also present some of AI’s challenges in relation to the strong feelings it engenders in humans. Issues such as the labour market, liabilities or biases that should be taken into account when applying this kind of technology. And we will address some of their connections to current technology and society.

Daniel Borrajo is a Professor of Computer Science at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid. He has published over 200 journal and conference papers, mainly in the fields of problem solving methods (heuristic search and automated planning) and machine learning. His current research interests lie in goal reasoning, multi-agent planning, machine learning applied to planning and meta-search for planning.

Refreshments will be served before the lecture at 5.00pm in the Level 4 Common Space, Building 303, 38 Princes Street
