Are you exploring, or interested in exploring, large-scale horticulture opportunities in Taranaki?
Join us on-site with Matt Hareb, a local landowner in Brixton who has planted 6,000 avocado trees across 16 hectares since 2021, with another 6,000 trees planned. Learn about his experience, journey to date, and plans for the future.
This is a practical Open Day aimed at landowners, growers, consultants, industry partners, and anyone curious about what it takes to develop a horticultural venture of scale in-region. While the day is focused on avocados, learnings can be applied to other permanent horticulture opportunities.
What to expect:
- Hear directly from Matt on what it takes to commit to commercial avocado production – from infrastructure to staffing, maintenance, and investment.
- Learn about supply chains and interest from supermarkets in late-season fruit.
- Find out about Matt’s early-stage plans for packhouse infrastructure to support other local growers.
- Get insights from local horticulturist expert Laurence Frost (Farmlands).
- Connect with others exploring horticultural diversification in the region.
Please wear closed footwear and be aware that bees are prevalent in the orchard.
Branching Out continues to connect local landowners and horticulturalists to progress land diversification opportunities in Taranaki. Matt connected with Venture Taranaki at a Branching Out event in 2021 and has since invested heavily to commercialise his venture. Open Days such as this offer a great way to learn from those on the ground.
This event is free, however registrations are essential to help with planning.
