Event description
Avocados: The Taranaki Opportunity

About this Event

The New Zealand avocado industry is vibrant and growing, with a vision and strategy in place to quadruple sales to $280m per annum and triple productivity by 2023. Already a proven success story in other parts of the country, setting up an avocado orchard in Taranaki is worth consideration.

Venture Taranaki is hosting this event to progress the objectives of the Branching Out project – investigating diverse, complementary food and fibre value chains to add further value to our region.

Who should attend:

Landowners, potential growers, financial decision makers (bankers, accountants and brokers), along with agricultural advisers and support services, and food production companies

Topics covered will include:

  • the avocado opportunity
  • the supply chain – from orchard to pack house to market
  • the projected global demand, potential risks and returns
  • orchard owner insights
  • Taranaki-specific myth-busting.

Presenters will include:

  • Venture Taranaki - Regional strategy/Branching Out Project overview
  • Stuart Pascoe, Lynwood Avocado Nursery - registered avocado nursery, producing healthy, pest-free, disease-free, certified avocado trees.
  • Jonathan Cutting, Trevalyans Pack and Cool - largest single-site avocado and kiwifruit packhouse in New Zealand
  • Alistair Young, Avoco - New Zealand's largest grower-led avocado exporter

This free event starts at 12:30pm, with light refreshments offered from 2pm and an opportunity to network with the presenters.

* In the event of an Alert Level shift, Venture Taranaki will notify attendees of any changes to the date of this event.
