Friends Who Are Going
Event description

Description

Are you in your last year of high school or first year out of school and looking to move to Wellington, Upper Hutt or Palmerston North? Or are you already here and have found the normal flatting life not so fulfilling?

Anglican Youth Movement (AYM) Houses offer an awesome alternative with the chance to journey with amazing people as we look to make a difference in the world around us.

Come along to the AYM House Progressive Dinner and hear about what it looks like to live in an AYM House.

Who are we?

We are an intentional community with houses in Wellington, Upper Hutt and Palmerston North that believe Jesus has more in store for us than simply getting a degree or good job and living a life chasing the dreams that the world offers us. We believe that we are truly alive when we are living out the call of Jesus to give our lives away in the service of others. We believe that by doing this we can get a better understanding of just who God is and how much God loves this world and these people that God created.

What does life in an AYM House look like?

In an AYM House life is built around three rhythms.

1. A rhythm of prayer

2. A rhythm of community

3. A rhythm of youth work

Prayer:

We know from experience that a rhythm of prayer is essential for our lives. It carries us through the hard times and allows others in our community and those that we walk with. Following the rhythms of the New Zealand Anglican prayer book means that we can join in with our brothers and sisters all around New Zealand who have been praying these same prayers for generations.

Community:

We live in a world that continually pushes for individualization and robs people of true meaningful relationships. We believe that for someone to grow into the best version of themselves that you need to be journeying with a community of people.

We gather every Tuesday evening (alternating weekly between meeting together as one big group and then smaller houses) to share stories of what life has had in store for us, receive training on how to do youth work well and for spiritual formation.

We also will meet with other AYM Houses from around the Wellington diocese 4 times a year so that we have time getting to know those who are on the same journey, but in different geographical locations.

Youth Work:

We believe that the best life is one lived for the benefit of others and so in an AYM Houses we believe in a rhythm of youth work. Being in an AYM House you will be connected to a parish or youth organization to work with. We do this because we know that Jesus called us to live a life in which me make disciples and serve others and that this when we become truly alive and learn of God’s amazing character and love.
