Event description

Description

The Café Classroom works closely with our industry partners to provide experience-based learning in a fun and interactive manner. For this Barista 101 workshop, we have partnered with Del Mar on Ferry Road to provide you with a great learning experience. In this workshop we start with the fundamentals of espresso extraction, teaching you how to dose, grind and tamp for that perfect shot, as well as making a range of espresso based drinks popular in the café industry.

At The Café Classroom, we believe that nothing's real until it's experienced... so if you've got coffee beans in your eyes, our Barista 101 Workshop Series are your first steps to becoming a skilled Barista at Home or in the Work Place, learning with professional-quality machines in a real working environment. Completion of this workshop is a step towards being awarded our Practical Barista Skills Certificate and leads on to further hospitality qualifications.

Workshop size is limited so everyone gets up close and personal.

Private session upgrades are available by arrangement.

Organise some friends and make a night of it and let’s start tamping!

Can I choose more Barista 101 workshops to enjoy?

This 2 hour beginners level workshop is a component of our Barista Practical Skills Certificate that includes the following workshops:

Workshop 1: Milk Texturing Techniques and Pouring

Workshop 2: Extracting Essentials ‘THE COFFEE SHOT’

Workshop 3: Making the Specialty Hot Drinks Menu

Workshop 4: Latte & Coffee Art

Workshop 5: Counter Service Practical

You are able to complete any of the workshops in any order and each is designed with the coffee novice in mind with no previous experience needed. Each workshop is $47.50 per person and can be booked and found on Eventbrite.co.nz/Christchurch/food & drink/classes.

When you complete each workshop you will receive a workshop attendance certificate that outlines what you have covered in the workshop. You are able to further your skills, qualifications and confidence by completing additional workshops and assessments that enable you to gain further skills in your own time and at your own pace.

To be awarded your Barista Practical Skills Certificate you are required to complete each workshop as well as provide evidence of an understanding of the essential industry skills covered. Additional to each workshop is a Job Ready Skills Assessment that includes a self-directed workbook for you to complete in your own time and an on-site industry work readiness evaluation to demonstrate that you have met each workshop skill competency. Each skills assessment is $37.50 per person and can booked on Eventbrite.co.nz/Christchurch/food & drink/classes.

Should I arrange an upgrade to a one on one private session with my own tutor?

One to one private workshops are customised to move at a pace decided by you, at a time that suits you, rather than by the demands of a group workshop structure. There is a flexibility that allows you to master skills at your pace. Our tutors are available 7 days a week. Private sessions begin at $70.00 per hour. E-mail us to request your private session information pack.

Can I get a group of friends together and just have some fun rather than work towards a qualification?

Organise a group for a private function – each workshop is perfect for birthdays, fundraising, a party with friends, a girl’s night out, anniversaries, and special occasions or are excellent as work events. All we ask is that there is a minimum of 6 people or a maximum of 60. Add food, music and dancing and the evenings are simply just great fun. E-mail us and we will work through the details with you.
