Event Details

Time to dust off the cobwebs and try something different. Lets head somewhere to get us motivated - Bealey Spur, Arthurs Pass.

We did this walk last year(s) and had 21 people come along we all had a blast so we are doing it again!

Please RSVP here and on our Meetup Group at https://www.meetup.com/epic6nz/events/247260560/ you will need to join however it is free.

TRANSPORTATION

What we normally do as we meet at James and Danny Place from 7:45 - 8:00 am in the City and have a coffee and a bit of a natter then we organise the cars, both James and I can take about 10 people between us! It is a good idea to text Danny telling him you will need transport (021 961 652) we never have a problem with transportation.

We will need to get away no later than 8:30 am

Alternatively you can meet us at the Yaldhurst Pub Carpark at 8:45 - 9:00 am. I will normally reply with a link for Glympse an you can watch us travelling in real time.

COST

If you could just give your driver $10 dollars (per person) this is for the return ride and helps keep it affordable for all.

Message us or text Danny on 021 961 652 if you would like further details :-)

BRING

Food, Water, Wind Jacket and Camera

Description as follows: Time: 4 - 6 hr return

"The track starts from the end of Cloudesley Road, off the main highway near the Bealey Hotel, 14 km south of Arthur’s Pass Village. Parking is available near the base of Cloudesley Road. Walk up the road to access the track.

This walk is often a good choice when north-westerly winds are bringing rain to Arthur’s Pass - being further east, it is drier in these conditions. The track also appeals to many walkers because it is more gradual than most of the alpine tracks around Arthur’s Pass Village, and it does not climb above the bush-line. It is also well marked and is suitable for reasonably fit people who are well equipped.

The track climbs gently up the spur, through mountain beech forest. In summer look out for red flowering mistletoe near the start of the track. At one point there is a dramatic view down to Bruce Stream - take care with children. Higher up, the track passes through tussock grasslands and subalpine scrub, and passes near several tarns. There are expansive views of the Waimakariri River Valley and surrounding mountains.

The track ends at an historic hut, once used by musterers in the days when this area was farmed for sheep."

• No Guns
• No Dogs or Cats!

PLEASE NOTE

Essential items to carry

• Water
• Food
• Warm clothing (even on hot days)

Anyone who does not come with the essential items listed above may be excluded from joining us that day. Thank you for understanding that this is for the safety of all participants.

Highly Recommended items to carry

• Wet weather gear
• Strong and suitable footwear. Trainers may be suitable on some walks but are often not suitable on mountain walks.

Although we encourage anyone to join in and beginners are certainly welcome, please be aware of the fitness level some walks require. If the word ‘Mt’ is in the title its up a mountain and may not be a good starting walk for beginners or people with lower fitness levels. If in doubt start with one of our easier walks and work your way up.
