Writing a Perfect Scene takes you through the basics of how to create scenes that stand out and make the audience feel.

Nobody watches a film or TV episode to analyse scene structure, they watch to be moved and wowed.

In this 3 hour online intensive, you’ll learn:

• The vital elements of a great scene.

• The different types of scenes

• How to construct a great scene that evokes emotion

• How to improve your description/big print

• How to improve your dialogue

• How to identify the conflict in your scene

• The difference between preparing a scene and writing it.

• How to critically rewrite your scenes to make them sing.

• We’ll break down and analyse existing scenes to show you how to improve your own writing.

Kathryn is an award-winning screenwriter who has worked in the NZ television/film industry for over 20 years. She has significant television and film credits and has developed numerous television series for NZ’s major production companies. Her most recently produced TV projects include – “Fresh Eggs,” “The Sounds” and multi-award-winning “The Cul de Sac.” She is also on the development team for an HBO sci-fi series and has a comedy series in development with Warner Brothers.

Are there ID requirements or an age limit to enter the event?

Age minimum is 16.(But contact me if you'd like to discuss!)

What is your cancellation/refund policy?

If the event is cancelled by organiser, participants will receive a full and automatic refund. If cancelled by the participant - cancellation must be 30 days prior to the event to receive a full refund. If cancellation is less than 30 days - a 50% fee refund is available at the facilitator's discretion.

What do I need to bring?

Pen and paper - and a laptop if you prefer.

What's the situation re: catering?

Morning and afternoon tea is provided on both days.

Is my registration/ticket transferrable?

Transferrable to another person - yes. Another event - no. (But please check with us.)

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

No, you'll be on our list. The name on the registration/ticket doesn't match the actual attendee. Is that okay? Yes. (We will check but people often buy this workshop for someone as a present.)

I’m interested in screenwriting – is this for me?

If you’re a brand new writer this is a great foundation course for all forms of screenwriting.
