Risking Everything: Join us for the launch of our latest research

You are invited to join us on Tuesday 11th June 2019 from 7.30am in Auckland for the launch of Risking Everything, the latest research undertaken with over 2000 New Zealanders by Horizon on behalf of the Financial Services Council. It delves into how New Zealanders think about risk, how they think about mitigating it and how they manage the potential impacts.

 Risking Everything: Delve into the top ten findings

  1. Managing, assessing and mitigating risk
  2. Thinking about financial risk
  3. Acknowledging financial risk and knowing how to manage the potential impacts
  4. Likelihood of financial risk
  5. Managing risk

  7. Household income and attitude to risk

  10. Activities undertaken to assess financial risk

This, a first in a series of research, helps to identify the key risks that New Zealanders perceive will affect their personal finances, how often they think about it, managing for short-term and longer term risk, identifying reasons why New Zealander’s are underinsured and where we get our advice.

The risking everything launch is a breakfast event in the Auckland CBD, where the FSC will introduce the new research and a panel of experts will debate the findings, attitudes to risk in New Zealand and challenges going forward.

Andrea Kan is an Executive Director at UMR Research Limited
Andrea has over 20 years experience in market research and has managed research projects that have covered audiences in New Zealand, Australia, the US and Asia. She works across a highly diverse range of clients and markets.  Her consumer experience covers financial services, the electricity sector, telecommunications, entertainment, and Government agency service interactions. Andrea has also worked on a number of social research programmes aimed at changing consumer behaviour and attitudes, covering – childhood obesity, attitudes to mental health, children’s nutrition and oral health, energy efficiency, public transport uptake, and electricity switching behaviour.  

Andrea has a Masters in Business Administration, a Bachelor of Science, and a certificate in Public Participation.

Tim Grafton is Chief Executive of the Insurance Council of New Zealand (ICNZ)
Tim Grafton became Chief Executive of the Insurance Council in November 2012. Tim has extensive experience in providing strategic, policy and communications advice to public and private sector leaders. He was an executive director of a leading market research company prior to taking up his position with ICNZ. 

Tim has a strong understanding of the machinery of government, having been an adviser to former Prime Ministers and Ministers of Finance as well as leading private companies. He has extensive knowledge of post-disaster recovery issues and insurance regulation.

He is a Chartered Member of the Institute of Directors and holds several governance roles. He is on the Executive Committee of the Global Federation of Insurance Associations, Chairs the Code Compliance Committee of the Fair Insurance Code, Chairs the Representative Users Group of the Deep South Science Challenge which focuses on research to adapt to climate change, and is on the New Zealand Advisory Board of the Australia and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance and the Advisory Board of Victoria University, Wellington’s Chair in the Economics of Disasters.  

Richard Klipin is Chief Executive of the Financial Services Council New Zealand (FSC)
He has extensive experience in leading and transforming Industry Associations, Life Insurance manufacturers and Financial Advice businesses, having held senior leadership roles in all sectors over the past 16 years. Organisations include Sovereign Assurance, ANZ Banking Group, Association of Financial Advisers and ING.

Richard is known as a community builder, skillfully engaging and influencing a diverse range of stakeholders to create common purpose, connection and enable collaboration.

He holds an MBA from the Macquarie Graduate School of Management, a Bachelor of Arts and Diploma of Education from Macquarie University and completed the Denison Miller Senior Executive leadership program as well as the innovative ‘Rethinking Leadership’ program with the Hunger Project in India.
