Event description

Description

Welcome to the first Cafe Scientifique Tauranga of 2018!

Apologies for the late advertising but we had to shuffle the February and March presentations as the February speaker was still returning from Antarctica.

On 19 February Dr Franz Strydom, from Skinspots Cancer Clinic, will be presenting an informative talk on skin cancer / melanoma, a subject matter we should all be aware of.

From WorkSafe NZ: New Zealand has the highest rate of melanoma in the world with over 2000 people reported to the New Zealand cancer registry with melanoma every year – that’s around six every day. Each year over 300 New Zealanders die from melanoma. Most of us know that too much sun exposure can harm our health – but because this harm is not always visible, it’s hard to identify the damage until it’s too late. Over-exposure to solar ultraviolet (UV) radiation is a serious hazard for all New Zealanders, particularly those who work outdoors.

Things to remember:

  • Please register on the Eventbrite website so that we can cater for the right number

  • No need to print the ticket - ignore the Eventbrite reminder and save a tree!

  • Doors open at 6:30pm for a 7pm start

  • There is a $5 door fee to cover venue costs
