Matariki, Mātauranga Māori and Modern Science, Special guest presenter Thomas (Tame) Malcom – Tame is an award-winning environmental scientist that can speak with mana to the cultural connections, collaborations between indigenous practices and western science. His research and practices includes Mātauranga Māori applied in tandem with a modern scientific approach for the protection of our native species and bush.

Thomas (Tame) Malcom Current role as Kaihautu / Director Te Putahitanga Tame has spent the last few years as operations manager for Te Tira Whakamataki which enable him to work with Māori communities. Thomas (or Tame) is a descendant of Te Arawa whānui and Ngāti Ruanui. Born and raised in Rotorua and has been fortunate to have been raised learning Te Reo me ōna tikanga.

Warren & Julia Banks host Cafe Scientifique Tauranga, a forum where, for the price of a cup of coffee anyone can come to explore the latest ideas in science and technology. We are based at the Tauranga Yacht Club. Since 2005 we have offered Tauranga 8-10 evening presentations on a range of science & technology topics. We work in collaboration with the Universities, research institutes and science-based industries offering a conduit for getting real science out into the community. We are committed to promoting public engagement with science and to making science accessible to everyone.  Enjoy!
