PLEASE NOTE: The Outdoor Camping Arahina modules are delivered in an overnight camp situation, participants will take part in camp routines (e.g. cooking meals) and sleep in tents.

A kit list will be sent to participants.

Taking Girls Away Overnight

After completing this module a leader will:

  • Understand the use of GirlGuiding NZ guidelines, policies and forms for taking girls away overnight
  • Be able to develop exciting camp programmes including using surrounding facilities
  • Know and understand health, hygiene and safety requirements for overnight events
  • Be able to guide the planning of an appropriate menu within budget and know correct food handling and storage

Completion of this module enables a leader who holds their Leadership Qualification to:

  • Take girls on an overnight activity run by an outside provider (eg zoo or museum), following the processes, as set out in Safety Guidelines for Programme Activities.

Outdoor Camping 1 – Practical equipment, food and tents

By completing this module GirlGuiding NZ Leaders will develop practical skills in:

  • a variety of styles of tents
  • using camp equipment
  • storing food safely without refrigeration
  • preparing and cooking food in the outdoors
  • briefing the caterer for an outdoor camp

Outdoor Camping 2 – Safety and site management

By completing this module GirlGuiding NZ Leaders will understand and implement requirements for:

  • health and hygiene in the outdoors
  • safety requirements
  • site management
