The Canterbury Aoraki Conservation Board invites you to be our guest at our annual Awards which recognise the efforts of local groups and individuals in supporting conservation within wider Canterbury.
This year the Awards have been widened to include new categories and for the first time the Conservation, Recreation and Young Kiwis Award winners will win $2,000 cash grants to support their projects. Our thanks to ECAN and DoC for their sponsorship of these grants.
The four categories are:
- Conservation Award celebrating restoration and biodiversity projects
- Recreation Award celebrating projects that support outdoor recreation and adventure
- Young Kiwis Award celebrating conservation and recreation projects led by Kiwis aged under 20
- Industry Award celebrating business support and sponsorship of conservation and outdoor recreation in the community
The Awards celebrate everyday people doing everyday conservation and look to engage communities with the conservation values of our spectacular area. This year, they will be presented by the Hon Nicky Wagner, Associate Minister for Conservation.
The Canterbury Aoraki Conservation Board's role is to ensure our community is fully represented and involved in how public conservation lands and waters are looked after for our children and future generations. Board members are appointed by the Minister, and they work closely with the Department of Conservation to ensure the best possible conservation outcomes.
The 2016 Conservation Awards will take place on Thursday 27 October at the Christchurch City Art Gallery Te Puna O Waiwhetu from 5:00pm to 6:30pm. It’ll be a great opportunity to find out about all the conservation projects underway in Canterbury. Tickets are free and we'd love to see you there.
