Canterbury Structured Literacy Get Together
About this event
Three Canterbury schools, Kaiapoi North, Ladbrooks and Te Raekura Redcliffs, have implemented Structured Literacy school-wide. In early August these schools, facilitated by Lifting Literacy Aotearoa, met with Ministry of Education officials (Ellen MacGregor-Reid, Deputy Secretary Early Learning and Pauline Cleaver, Associate Deputy Secretary, Curriculum Pathways and Progress) to discuss their Structured Literacy journeys.
The Ministry officials were able to observe Structured Literacy lessons in action and staff talked about their respective school-wide implementations. They also discussed what they would like to see from the Ministry to help support other New Zealand schools to adopt a Structured Literacy approach.
Come and join us on Wednesday 22 September from 4.00pm-5.30pm at Cashmere Primary School to listen to staff from Kaiapoi North, Ladbrooks and Te Raekura Redcliffs talk about their discussions with the Ministry of Education and their Structured Literacy implementations.
A panel discussion will be facilitated by Jo Jessep of Jo Jessep MSL Literacy Educators with plenty of opportunities to ask questions. On the panel will be:
Jason Miles, Principal, Kaiapoi North School
Felicity Fahey, Deputy Principal, Kaiapoi North School
Penny O'Brien, Principal, Ladbrooks School
Keryn Wilson, Deputy Principal, Ladbrooks School
Rose McInerney, Principal, Te Raekura Redcliffs
Abby Blanch, Deputy Principal, Te Raekura Redcliffs
This event is open to anyone who is interested in Structured Literacy.
The event is subject to the Canterbury region being in Covid Alert Level 2 or below. Under Alert Level 2 numbers are restricted and other safety measures will be advised.
