Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM®) and Project Management Professional (PMP®) Exam Preparation Course

If you have an interest in project management and want to up-skill in this area, this course will provide you with the knowledge and skills you need to become a confident project manager, and the ability to sit an external exam to obtain CAPM® Certification or the PMP® Certification.

CAPM® Certification is a globally recognised entry-level qualification endorsed by the Project Management Institute, which will demonstrate your understanding of the fundamental knowledge, terminology, and processes of effective project management.

PMP® recognises experienced project managers who are responsible for all aspects of project delivery, leading and directing cross-functional teams.

Course fees

$1,600.00 - general course fee

$1,400.00 - fee for PMI members

$1,360.00 - fee for Otago Polytechnic alumni

IMPORTANT NOTE: The fees set out above are for the course only. There is a separate fee to sit the exam.

Exam fees

If you wish to sit the Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM®) exam, you need to register with and pay the fee to the Project Management Institute (PMI). The fees for the CAPM exam are in US dollars:

$300.00 USD - non-PMI members

$225.00 USD - PMI members

If you wish to sit the Project Management Professional (PMP®) exam, you need to register with and pay the fee to the Project Management Institute (PMI). The fees for the PMP® exam are in US dollars:

$555.00 USD - non-PMI Member

$405.00 USD - PMI Member

Course outline

This course consists of six full days:

  • four days of group sessions, familiarising yourself with the Project Management Book of Knowledge (PMBOK).
  • two days of exam preparation, providing a review of what was covered in the group sessions and a mock exam. You will also receive exam tips and techniques.

  • Thursday 17 August – introductory session (free to confirm this is the right course for you)
  • Thursday 31 August – group session 1
  • Thursday 7 September – group session 2
  • Thursday 14 September – group session 3
  • Thursday 21 September – group session 4
  • Wednesday 19 October – exam preparation 1
  • Thursday 26 October – exam preparation 2

You will learn

  • The key concepts and tools from the PMI® PMBOK® Guide.
  • The five project management processes and how to apply them.
  • The ten bodies of knowledge and how to apply them.

Pre-requisites for the CAPM® exam

You need

  • a secondary level degree (high school diploma or the global equivalent)

and

  • at least 1,500 hours of project experience

or

  • 23 hours of project management education before you sit the exam. This 35-hour course meets the requirement of having at least 23 hours’ project management education before sitting the CAPM® exam.

Pre-requisites for the PMP® exam

Option One:

  • a secondary level degree (high school diploma or the global equivalent)

and

  • at least 7,500 hours leading and directing projects

and

  • 35 hours of project management education before you sit the exam

OR

Option Two:

  • a four-year degree

and

  • 4,500 hours leading and directing projects

and

  • 35 hours of project management education before you sit the exam

Note: This 35-hour course meets the requirement of having at least 35 hours’ project management education before sitting the PMP® exam.

Workload

You will be expected to complete readings and activities outside of class hours.

Tutor

This course will be taught by Roberta Lawrence (PMP and BAppMgt (Project Management)). Roberta is a Project Management practitioner and lecturer. She has been active within the project management profession for 20 years as an employee, consultant, practitioner and trainer across New Zealand, Australia, and the United Kingdom.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

Nope. Please save paper and just bring yourself.

What is the refund policy?

The last date for withdrawal with a refund is usually the first day of the course. If the withdrawal is after the first day of the course, a $50 (incl GST) administration fee will be charged.

What happens if the course is cancelled?

Enrolment in a course is conditional upon and subject to enough students enrolling in the course. If the course is cancelled, we will refund your fees in full.
