The Cartwright Anniversary Seminar:

Out of the Shadows: Older women and violence

Elder abuse is a growing but mostly silent issue in Aotearoa New Zealand

Elder abuse is the intentional harm of an older person that occurs within any relationship where there is an expectation of trust. Agencies working to end elder abuse in Aotearoa New Zealand receive thousands of referrals every year, and many more cases go unreported. Women make up the majority of elder abuse victims.

A panel of experts will share their expertise of elder abuse, including uncovering the types of abuse faced by elder women, signs and risk factors and what needs to be done to end this violence and abuse.

There will be a panel of presentations, followed by discussion and light refreshments.

Panel members include:

  • Marie Hull-Brown - Mental Health Foundation
  • Daphne Marshall - Te Oranga Kaumātua Kuia Disability Support Services Trust
  • Nilima Venkat - Shanti Niwas Charitable Trust
  • Chris Frew - Age Concern
  • Bronwyn Groot - Security and Fraud Coordinator, BNZ

Tickets cost $10 plus fees. Tickets are transferable but non-refundable.

Fickling Convention Centre is accessible with plenty of free parking.

To arrange payment by direct deposit or cheque, or to discuss anything further, please contact Women's Health Action on 09 520 5295, or email info@womens-health.org.nz.
