Description

The Pope’s Astronomer to launch 2019 Christchurch Catholic Business Network
The first Catholic Business Luncheon for 2019 will be launched at Rydges Hotel, Latimer Square this April for Catholics throughout the region.

The three luncheons series provide a networking opportunity for Catholic professionals to connect with Church leadership and hear from dynamic speakers, including local, national and international leaders.
Attendees at the initial event will be addressed by the Pope’s Astronomer, Guy Consolmagno. The Jesuit Brother who will share on the topic of Science and Faith and how the two work well together, rather than as competing ideologies. Brother Consolmagno was named by Pope Francis to be the Director of the Vatican Observatory in September 2015.

In establishing this ministry, the Catholic Diocese of Christchurch has caught on to a powerful way to build meaningful relationships between its Catholic professionals, the Bishop and other leaders of the Church. Already, similar luncheon series has rapidly grown in the Archdioceses of Sydney, Brisbane and Wellington and remain vital to the life of the Church in the United States where they first began.
An annual Catholic Business Network membership includes three luncheons throughout the year and a range of activities to give the laity regular opportunities to get to know the Bishop, clergy, religious and fellow Catholic businessmen and women in the community.

Diocesan General Manager, Andy Doherty believes the Catholic Business Network is part of a growing trend in the Church worldwide to form stronger networks, and it fulfils a desire among active and retired Catholics who are interested in the future of the Church. The successful establishment of Catholic Business Network in 2017 in Christchurch Diocese is in tune with calls from Catholic laity to be more involved and better engaged in the Church.

Bishop Paul expressed his hope that the network would bring together business and community leaders to discuss matters of mutual concern and share ideas focused on contemporary issues.
“With very positive feedback from the previous two events in the city, we are blessed with a large network of professionals in the Christchurch community who identify as Catholic. I hope this will be a dynamic forum where they feel they again engage in their faith and encourage one another to live out our Christian values in the workplace”.

Law firm Cavell Leitch will sponsor April's Lunch, and two additional opportunities will be made available later in the evening at Piano Arts & Music Centre where Br Guy will address High School and University students at 5 pm, with an opportunity for Catholics to attend a later address at 7 pm.
An exciting line up of speakers awaits members, with Bishop Paul Martin speaking about the vision for the Diocese in August along with Australian journalist and author Madonna King speaking in October.
