About this event

How we Read our Scriptures

Children of Abraham, set up in 2019, is the initiative of the Pearl of the Islands Foundation (Muslim), Beth Shalom Progressive Synagogue (Jewish) and the Holy Trinity Anglican Cathedral (Christian). The aim of this initiative is to promote inter-faith understanding and co-operation between members of the three monotheistic religions, Islam, Judaism and Christianity by holding annual panel discussions.

The Pearl of the Islands Foundation is the host for this year’s event.

Our theme for this year’s panel is to use a Scripture story that is in common, and yet slightly distinct, in Biblical and Quranic narratives (Genesis 22, Surah As-Saffat 37:102-111). The nuances of the story lead us to the presentation that speaks, in most general views, about how in our own religious traditions we understand the Scriptures.

This year our speakers will talk about:

- The sacred story of the binding of Isaac in Jewish, Christian and Muslim traditions

- An Introduction to the Scriptures (parts, formats etc.)

- Ways of reading Scripture

- How does your way of reading Scriptures affect your faith life?

Light refreshments will be provided if the seminar can be held in person.
