Team up with other developers (or fly solo) and make a game in just one weekend! Kiwijam is happening across Aotearoa, so join in the fun!
About this event
Kiwijam 2022 is running from 6:00pm July 22nd to 7:00pm July 24th at the Yoobee Colleges Colombo Street Campus in Christchurch. Join us for a weekend of game development, an epic challenge for both new and experienced game developers!
Registration is free! Once you've signed up through EventBrite, simply rock up to the Kiwijam Christchurch Jam Site on Friday evening, July 22! You'll be placed with a team if you like, or you can go it alone.
After the event is underway, the Kiwijam '22 Theme will be announced and you'll have 48 hours to ship a game!
Who can attend?
Anyone from first-timers to professional Game Developers! Teams will be comprised of people with a wide range of skill sets, so don't be afraid to just jump in! The Kiwijam event is 18+, exceptions may be considered for underage attendees who have a full-time chaperone or supervisor - please reach out to us at chchgda@gmail.com for more information.
Where is it?
The Christchurch Kiwijam Site will be hosted at the Yoobee Colleges Colombo Street Campus, 573 Colombo Street, Christchurch. The Christchurch Game Developers Association is hosting this Kiwijam site with generous support from Yoobee Colleges.
How do I join?
1. Sign Up - here, on EventBrite.
2. Turn Up - at Yoobee on Friday the 22nd (around 6pm).
3. Jam Up - alone, with friends, or with a pick-up team!
Can I bring code, art assets, sounds, etc. with me to the Jam?
Yes, you may bring pre-existing resources with you, such as engines, code, art, sounds, etc., but don’t come with a game already made! In the spirit of the jam, it's about what you create with your team using the Kiwijam '22 theme.
Do I need to bring my own computer?
There are computers available to use on site, but you are welcome to bring your own laptop or creative devices! You won’t be able to install anything new on the Yoobee computers, but they come with: Unreal Engine, Unity, Blender, Maya, plus a smattering of other tools for game dev.
Can I participate remotely?
Technically yes, but we'd prefer you didn't! Kiwijam is intended to be an in-person jam, though we understand that this might not be possible for everyone. If you intend to work mostly remotely, we'd love it if you were able to attend our opening and closing ceremonies - since Kiwijam will not be streamed, we can't guarantee our theme announcement, online comms, and event updates will be timely. Working remotely also poses additional challenges for us when putting together teams. If you strongly wish to participate remotely, you can make a note of it in your EventBrite ticket registration. Please join us either on the CGDA Discord (discord.gg/68YqqFZ) or the Kiwijam Discord (discord.gg/9QMy4MpWyv) for remote comms and updates.
