Event description
For intermediate-level investors - hear from Natalie Ferguson about building a diversified portfolio and more.

About this Event

Closing the Gap is delighted to launch our next phase of workshops aimed at those women we have met who might have already dabbled in investing, but are looking to learn more.

Who for: Come along if you're out of the beginner phase: you might have saved a f**k-off fund (3 months' salary or more), checked in on your KiwiSaver, and/or have a few index funds. We're here to get you to the next level. If this is sounding a little more than what you're after, hold tight and look out for another of our introductory workshops later this year.

Format: This will be a "mini-workshop" format, with an amazing guest speaker and interactive activities to engage you in your investing journey. Most importantly, we'll be encouraging you to talk to other women about money. There will be healthy snacks and nibbles provided by the delicious Seize Café.

Guest Speaker: Natalie Ferguson is currently the Head of Product for Hatch - an investment platform that "allows Kiwis to invest their money their way". Her love of investing goes back to her 20s when she participated in the Xero IPO, without any previous share market experience (quite the learning curve!). She has strongly held beliefs about the importance of wealth building to build financial freedom and to have control over our lives. She spends a lot of her spare time convincing the women around her that money buys freedom, and that growing it is easier than the industry leads you to believe. She'll share her top tips for building a diversified portfolio, learning-by-doing and how to deal with the ups and downs along the way.

About Closing the Gap: While all people, regardless of age or gender, are in need of financial education, we've formed a social enterprise to target a specific problem: that women tend to invest less and later than their male peers. We end up with less wealth saved, even though we need more because we live longer. Historically, the financial world hasn't been particularly appealing to women (even now, 76% of NZ's financial advisors are men, as are 80% of the members of the NZ Shareholders Association) and it's our mission to:

  • normalise conversations about money
  • educate women about investing
  • encourage women to take action

We are independent and focussed on facilitating education – not selling you financial products. Find out more: www.closingthegap.co.nz
