About this event

Celebrate the launch of TDC68 Aotearoa: The World's Best Typography with a Coffee & Croissants conversation on the exhibitions first day open. 10.30am coffee pouring, 11am talk begins.

Award-winning creatives Lloyd Osborne and Shabnam Shiwan discuss how strategic design and creative direction drives culture, using examples from their own practice including design work for Karen Walker, Atamira Dance Company and Godavari Diamonds.

Lloyd Osborne and Shabnam Shiwan are the Directors of creative agency Osborne Shiwan and manage the Aotearoa arm of Type Director's Club.

Lloyd Osborne spent his early childhood years living in the village of Battlesbridge, just outside of London. His family, always dreaming of new adventures, resided in a tiny riverside cottage, before emigrating to bush-clad Titirangi in Tāmaki Makaurau, Aotearoa.

Lloyd’s specialised expertise in culture and luxury has seen the creation of memorable brands for new luxury labels Karen Walker, Deadly Ponies and Knuefermann.

Clients include Silo Theatre, the French Trade Commission, Auckland Museum, New Zealand Opera and Marcel Wanders. Lloyd’s work has been recognised in AGDA (Australia), Red Dot Awards (Germany), ADC (USA), TDC (USA), and Good Design Awards (Australia)

In 2019, working with the Auckland University of Technology, Lloyd curated the first TDC exhibition in Tāmaki Makaurau, a typographic show travelling to over 50 cities worldwide.

Lloyd was recently selected as a judge for The One Club’s Young Ones and has been a judge for the Adelaide Advertising & Design Club Awards and Axis Awards.

Born in Lautoka, Fiji, Shabnam Shiwan grew up by the Pacific Ocean, near tropical rainforests and colourful marine reefs. At age 13, she emigrated with her family to diversely cultural Papatoetoe in Tāmaki Makaurau, Aotearoa.

Shabnam’s understanding of people and place has led to the creation of brands for Atamira Dance Company, Love Taupō and Tourism Fiji.

Her work has been recognised in the Red Dot Awards (Germany), Clio (USA), ADC (USA), AIGA (USA), One Show (USA), and TDC (USA).

Shabnam’s work has been exhibited in Objectspace and published in Graphis (USA), I.D. (USA) and Page (Germany).

She has judged The One Club’s Young Guns, Drum Awards and AGDA Awards. She was recently invited to talk at DesignThinkers Vancouver in Canada.

Shabnam has been appointed as an Advisory Board member for the Type Directors Club and is a participant in Here Now, a global mentorship for BIPOC creatives.

Coffee & Croissants is a conversation series supported by our friends at Allpress Espresso.
