Event description

Description

Walk or Run your way around the 1, 3 or 5 km course at the Tahunanui Sports Ground and become your own unique colour creation. This fun event is brought to you by Girl Guiding NZ, Multiculutral Nelson Tasman, the Columbian Refugee Society and Sport Tasman.

Wear a white or black t-shirt to get the full effect! The course is family-friendly and great for kids.

Registrations are at 1pm and at 1:15pm there is a warm up for all competitors. At 1:25pm the fun begins, our fire truck will spray runners and walkers with a light mist, this is to help the coloured paint powder stick. Work your way around the track at your own pace and be prepared to be showered with non-toxic paint powder along the way.

Afterwards the fun doesn't stop. There will be latino dancing demonstrations and a chance to learn some steps if you're keen. Individual coloured paint powder sachets can be purchased to throw at your friends and family, if you are hungry we will have a susage sizzel plus some yummy ethnic food stalls and there is a chance to win a spot prizes.

Tickets are $6 per person plus booking fee, with an option to purchase an event badge.

As part of the ticket fee we will be making a donation to Emma's Army (https://www.facebook.com/Emmas-Army-1873244076105956/). Emma is a Nelson Guide who has a brain tumour, she is an amazing person and we want to help out.

Register today, there is a cap on entries and you don't want to miss out on the fun.

FAQs

What should I bring into the event?

Wear black or white to get the full effect of the colour. Make sure you bring a drink bottle and suncreen and hat as it will be a sunny day of course!

How does the cousre work?

Each lap is 1 km, so

  • 1 lap = 1 km
  • 3 laps = 3 km
  • 5 laps = 5 km

There will be two lanes, the outer lane is for running (or walking) and the inner lane is the colour lane. You only go around the colour lane once, on your last lap. Our marshalls will help you.

In the colour lane, there are five colour stations where our friendly volunteers will throw coloured paint powder as you run past.

In the outer lane there will also be an obstacle area, this is optional, you can choose to tackle the obstacles or simply run past them.

Here's a map that shows roughly what things will look like on the day

Do I need to be a pro runner to enter?

No, with 1, 3 or 5 km options you can skip, run, walk or crawl your way around the course at your own pace.

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?

No, everyone is welcome

Can I bring my pet?

We'd prefer if you didn't bring your pets to the colour craze and they'd probably prefer not become a colour creation too!

Is the colour powder safe?

Yes, it is non-toxic and biodegradable.

Will the colour ruin clothes or running shoes?

The colour does mostly wash out after the event. As with anything dirty, the sooner you wash it the better. We suggest wearing items that you wouldn’t mind getting colorful, and making sure to wash your colour craze items separately from your other laundry.

How does the colour affect the inside of cars?

Most people bring some towels for the insides of their cars, or a change of clothes just in case.

Is the Color Craze timed?

The Colour Craze is not a timed event. Runners tend to take their sweet time out there and no one really cares about their speed. We suggest self-timing for anyone desiring a finish time.

How can I contact the organiser with any questions?

Email emmareeves12@hotmail.com

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

You can bring your ticket or save a tree and just show one of our friendly rego team the copy on your phone

Can I update my registration information?

Yes

Are there refunds?

If an event is held as advertised, we cannot issue refunds. The logistics of setting up and planning the event make it impossible. Just make sure you are good to go before signing up.

What happens if there is bad weather?

A little rain won’t stop us! It even makes the colour brighter! If there are major weather warnings during the weekend of the event, check for emails with updates.

What is the GA Adult or Child plus badge option?

If you are a Girl Guide then you probably love earning and collecting badges. The badge was designed by a Girl Guiding NZ member and can be purchased through the tciket options as a way to remember the event for Guiding members. For an extra $1.70 you can get a badge to remember this event. Badges will be distributed after the event. Non-guiding members are welcome to order a badge too.

This is what the badge looks like.

What is Emma's Army?

Beautiful wee Emma was diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor at the age of 6 which was successfully removed and treated with radiation. Then the unthinkable happened again. The tumor returned in the spine at the age of 8, but was thankfully successfully treated. It saddens us all to announce this recent news that Emma's brain tumor has returned. Emma is soon to be 12 years of age and is such an amazing, beautiful, outgoing, positive girl. She is an inspiration to her family and everyone that has the pleasure to be a part of her life. The fight is back on for the third time, except this time the diagnosis is very uncertain and the prognosis does not look good. (https://www.facebook.com/Emmas-Army-1873244076105956/).

Emma is also a Nelson Guide, and in the spirit of Guiding we want to help Emma out as much as we can.
