Description

Conservation from wilderness to cities: it’s all about people

Dr Danielle Shanahan, Manager Conservation and Research at ZEALANDIA eco-sanctuary

The challenges we face in conservation vary from country to country, city to city. However, these challenges—from the wild elephants of Myanmar to the threatened species of New Zealand—all have one thing in common: people. We create many of the challenges for our wildlife, but we are also at the core of the solution. In this talk we will travel the globe to explore examples of conservation challenges, revealing just what is possible when people come together for a common cause. We will then look at what nature means for us as people, and why it is important for our health, our wellbeing, and our identity.
