Event description
Join Professor Jane Kelsey and esteemed panelists in a discussion around the 4 inter-related areas that have marked Jane's academic career.

About this event

Continuing the Conversation: Talking Truth to Power: The Next 40 Years.

This symposium hands over the baton from Jane Kelsey to a new generation of forward-looking critical thinkers, many of whom Jane has taught.

Four panels of contributors will engage in structured conversations about the challenges they will face in the next 40 years. Seasoned campaigners will facilitate sessions in four areas of focus during Jane’s career:

1. Te Tiriti o Waitangi and Access to Justice;

2. Political Economy of Public Policy;

3. Globalisation; and

4. The role of universities, collective governance and unions.* Chatham House rules will apply to encourage open and free-flowing discussion.

The event will be a structured conversation. There will be no opening plenary or keynote addresses. Jane will be delivering her Valedictory Lecture the night prior which will be set the scene that touches on all these areas when exploring “Truth to Power: The role of legal scholar as licensed subversive”.
