About this Event

If you have a keen interest in making jewellery this course is for you! This introduction to the ancient craft of silver-smithing covers the basics to create a contemporary silver ring. You'll begin by learning techniques and making copper samples, and with your new found skills you’ll make a silver band by the end of the workshop. Tools and materials will be provided for one silver ring.

DATES:

Tuesday and Thursday for two weeks on 5th & 7th and 12th and 14th February 2019.

TIMES:

6 - 8:45pm

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN:

• Filing and sanding

• Cutting and saw piercing

• Drilling

• Basic metal forming (silver-smithing)

• Ring sizing

• Basic soldering

• Basic patination

• Texturing

• Finishing

WHY DO THIS COURSE:

Creating your own jewellery as a gift to yourself or another is incredibly satisfying, not only do you take away a personal momento, but you also gain skills and knowledge to be able to make jewellery at home.

ABOUT THE TUTOR:

Vernon Bowden is an artist working in Wellington, who regularly exhibits his work in Australia and abroad. He studied at sculpture at Otago Polytechnic School of Art in Dunedin, New Zealand and completed an Advanced Diploma in Object and Jewellery Design at Enmore Design Centre in Sydney where he later taught.

LEVEL OF EXPERIENCE:

This is an entry-level programme and requires no previous knowledge of jewellery making.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:

Just bring your enthusiasm! Tools and materials are provided for one silver ring, there will be a small cost for silver for a second ring (if time permits).
