About Course Tutor Rachel Lang MNZM

Rachel Lang is the multi-award winning screenwriter and producer behind numerous series such as "Outrageous Fortune" , "Nothing Trivial", "Bad Mothers" and "Filthy Rich" to name just a few of the jewels in her extensive TV career.

She currently splits her time working on creating prime time drama in NZ and Australia. She is also the Vice-president of the NZ Writers Guild board and has mentored many newer writers into successful TV writing careers.

Course Schedule

NB: All sessions are live via Zoom

Session 1 - Creating a Great TV Series Idea.

  • Discover the key elements every great (or even average) TV Series must have.
  • Learn why these elements are "must have"
  • Learn the industry definitions for what you are creating.

Session 2 - What materials do you need to pitch a TV series? Where do you begin?

  • Learn how to put together the prose documents you need to pitch.
  • Learn how to boil your series idea down to it's simplest form.
  • Learn how to write a TV logline, one pager and proposal.
  • Learn the difference between series outline, proposal, bible, pitch deck.

Session 3 – Developing your idea. What will drive it? What’s the essential ingredient for a great show?

  • Create the most important ingredient of the series - great characters!
  • Learn how to complicate things for your protagonist.
  • Learn how to create your series arc.

Session 4 – The Pilot – and Pitching Session

If you have worked out your series, what needs to be in the Pilot?

  • Learn the function and elemenst of a pilot.
  • Learn the key to pitching
  • Pitch your series idea!

Participants (that’s you, aspiring TV writer) will:

  • Learn how to generate a compelling series ideas.
  • Learn the essential components of a TV series
  • Learn the difference between writing for TV and film.
  • Learn the function of the script documents involved in TV production
  • Learn how and when to pitch your idea.
  • be invited to pitch their project to a panel of TV Creators

Are there ID requirements or an age limit to enter the event?

Age minimum is 16.(But get in touch if you'd like to discuss!)

I’m interested in screenwriting – is this for me?

Yes. But if you’re a brand new writer a better foundation course for you might be our 6 week Beginner’s Guide Writing Workshop: Screenwriting 101

What is your cancellation/refund policy?

If the event is cancelled by organiser, participants will receive a full and automatic refund. If cancelled by the participant - cancellation must be at least 7 days prior to the event to receive a full refund. If cancellation is less than 7 days - a 50 % fee refund or a workshop credit is available. NB: For live events - if cancellation is less than 48 hours prior to event no refund will be issued.

Pen and paper , good internet connection and your computer.
