Graduates from across our art, design, music and creative media production degrees return to talk about their experience as students and their careers since graduating. The event adds another dimension to the Wellington Open Day which follows on Friday 23 August.

This evening is ideal for anyone considering a degree in the creative arts, as well as parents or teachers who would like to find out more about study here, and where our graduates go.

Join us at 5.30pm in Level C Te Ara Hihiko for refreshments before the presentations start in The Pit auditorium at 6pm. There will be time to talk with graduates and staff afterwards, with the event concluding by 7.30pm.

Graduates joining us include:

Kareena Harris - Ākina

Kareena is a designer turned social entrepreneur who is passionate about supporting environmental focused enterprise through her work with the Ākina Foundation. Until 2018 she co-led her own enterprise, The Misprint Co, after developing the idea with a fellow design student in her final year of a Bachelor of Design. Misprint combined their design thinking skills and passion for the environment into a popular Wellington-based business that created re-purposed paper notebooks.

Hamish Fraser - Aurora 44

Hamish graduated from Massey with a Bachelor of Design in 2013. He began his career in 2014 as a 3D Generalist on Marvel cartoons at Mechanic Animation working on Avenger’s Assemble, Hulk and Guardians of the Galaxy. He has spent the past 2 years working as a Concept Artist at Aurora44 Games, primarily on the game ASHEN.

Emma Hall-Phillips – Moments Collective

Emma has a longstanding passion for music and events and has dedicated herself to the music industry as an artist and promoter. In 2017 while still a student, she created her own promotions company, Moments, focused on amplifying the voices of women and gender minorities. Through Moments Emma runs local club nights, a multi-venue New Year's Eve Festival and also tours local and international artists across the country.

Chev Hassett - Artist and Photographer

Chevron is an artist and writer who works in a variety of forms, with an attention to upholding Tikanga Māori and Kaupapa Māori. Born in Lower Hutt, Chevron is of Ngāti Porou, Ngāti Rongomaiwahine, Ngāti Kahungunu and Pākehā heritage. He holds a Bachelor of Design (Hons) 2016 from Massey University, majoring in photography. In 2017, he was awarded the Ngā Manu Pīrere Award from Te Waka Toi and Creative New Zealand. Recent exhibitions include A Place TŪ Be, Courtenay Place Lightboxes, 2018 and The Children of Māui, MEANWHILE Gallery, 2019. He is the current Toi Pōneke Visual Artist in Residence, 2019.

Kate Lambert – Pukeko Pictures

Kate was in the first cohort of graduates from the new Bachelor of Creative Media Production at Massey where she specialised in 3D animation and asset modelling for screen. With experience across a broad spectrum of film production, from story boarding and concept art through to directing, set dressing and editing, Kate immediately secured a position with Pukeko as assistant editor on Thunderbirds Are Go, before progressing on to her current role as Previs Animator.

Kimi Moana Whiting - Storybox Studios

A recent graduate in Industrial Design, Kimi’s passion is experience design – how to enhance our engagement with products and services, visually or physically. As she charts her first steps she has currently just finished interning at Storybox Studios as a Junior Designer.

Hannah Hutchinson – Pepa Stationery

Hannah studied textile design, completing her Master’s degree at Massey in 2015. She subsequently spent a year teaching design at a university in China before returning to Christchurch in 2017. Here she discovered Pepa Stationery, which combined her appreciation for beautifully made, tactile goods and the dynamic use of colour. When the opportunity to purchase the business came up she jumped at the chance to be her own boss, and work in that sweet spot where aesthetics and functionality meet.

Anna Hicks – Bernina NZ

Anna Hicks is a sustainable fashion & textile artist who works with reclaimed materials and traditional handcraft techniques to create a variety of wearable art and textile art. A graduate of Massey University with a BDes in Fashion & Entrepreneurship, Anna spends her time creating, exhibiting, teaching and speaking about her work to promote sustainability and the health benefits of handcrafts.

Teresa Collins – Artist

Teresa Collins graduated with a BFA in 2018, making works that expand the fields of painting, sculpture and installation. Her exhibition ‘On Second Thought’ at Precinct 45 in November 2018, explored the possibilities of paintings as objects and how they might engage with us in different spaces, reflecting everyday musings through minimal forms.

Ellie Jackson - Warren and Mahoney

Ellie completed her Bachelor of Design, majoring in spatial design, with first class honours in 2018. She undertook a number of internships and work experiences during her studies and is currently a junior interior designer with Warren and Mahoney in Auckland. Her interests are focused on the user journey alongside how materiality, volume and light can be manipulated to affect the experience and mood of a user within a space.


Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?

There is no minimum age (or maximum!), it is however aimed at school leavers and their whanau

What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?

The No 11 Bus serves Massey with a busstop at Entrance C on Wallace St.

The No 14 Bus will bring you to/from the Airport to the same busstop.
