Summary:
Rob Penney (Southern QA) will provide an overview of a range of steelwork topics including:
• Introduction to QA requirements for steel structures (conforming to NZS3404 and AS/NZS5131)
• AS/NZS5131 Appendix I explained
• Risk factors leading to non-conforming steelwork: material supply, fabrication, welding, erection, painting (especially intumescent)
• Issues specific to overseas sourced fabricated steelwork and materials (including bolts)
• SCNZ Steel Fabricator Certification (SFC) scheme, ILAC and ACRS
• Inspections: 2nd and 3rd party inspections, QA and auditing
• Compliance certificates and PS3 issue for QA and inspections

Speaker Bio:
Rob Penney has been involved in NDT for nearly 40 years, and is currently a Director, Technical Manager and Board Chairman of Southern QA Ltd, which employs 37 Technical and administrative staff. Rob holds NDT level 3 certification in UT, RT and MT, is currently a member of the IANZ Physical Sciences Professional Advisory Committee, and is a member of the Australian Standards Committee MT-007 which deals with NDT standards.
Rob has also served on the NZNDTA executive and the CBIP (Certification Board for Inspection Personnel) Board.
In his spare time Rob is a proud father of four adult children, devoted grandfather of two, and has interests in aviation, jet boating and golf
