"One 'aha moment' after the other."
The ultimate starting point for brave leaders, courageous cultures and organisational change.
Founded on the research of Dr. Brené Brown, Dare to Lead™ is an empirically based courage-building programme, delivered by Boma New Zealand CEO and Certified Dare to Lead™ Facilitator Kaila Colbin.
Brené has spent two decades studying shame and more than seven years specifically looking at leadership. During her research, she interviewed leaders from all over the world—from Fortune 100 companies, non-profits, public sector entities, and more—and asked one question: what is the future of leadership?
Remarkably, their answers pointed to one thing: we need braver leaders.
We need more courage.
The most significant finding from Brené’s latest research, and the foundation of Dare to Lead™, is that courage is a collection of four skill sets that are teachable, measurable, and observable.
After completing the three-day Dare to Lead™ programme you'll understand how to:
- Effectively navigate vulnerability and unlock change
- Turn values from fluffy language into tangible, practical behaviours
- Build a common culture of trust in your team
- Cultivate the skills to rise from setbacks and be more resilient
This curriculum is essential for teams who want to:
- Be better equipped to deal with difficult conversations
- Reduce unhealthy and unproductive behaviour
- Be more creative and innovative
- Build resilience and improve alignment
- Foster a culture of accountability and trust
This experience is for you if:
- You're in a position of leadership within your organisation
- You see the potential in people and processes, and are willing to take responsibility for achieving that potential
- You’re passionate about accelerating performance in yourself and others
- You have to navigate organisational change as part of your role

Our COVID-safe plan
Boma New Zealand is committed to delivering COVID-safe events. We’re following all Ministry of Health guidelines and working closely with our event suppliers to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.
We have a comprehensive COVID-safe plan for each event, including a plan per COVID-19 Alert Level, ensuring you can book with certainty and attend with confidence.
We're prepared to deliver this event at COVID-19 Alert Level Two. Here’s what you can expect while attending this programme at delta two.
Masks
- In line with guidelines from the Ministry of Health, masks will be required for all participants, except when eating or physically distancing outside.
- Kaila, your facilitator, will not be wearing a mask while facilitating at the front of the room, but she will do a surveillance COVID test prior to the programme.
- We understand it may be confusing to require masks at certain times but not others. Our approach to this is consistent with the Swiss-cheese model described here by Dr. Siouxsie Wiles: no one protective measure is perfect, but several measures together dramatically reduce the risk of infection.
Venue
- Please scan in daily on the NZ COVID Tracer app and ensure you have bluetooth tracing enabled.
- Sanitiser will be provided; please use liberally.
- Unless weather prohibits it, we'll open the door to the outside during the breaks.
- We have separate wharepaku solely for the use of the cohort.
- All surfaces at the venue will be deep cleaned each night.
- We ask you to recognise the cohort as your extended bubble and keep interaction with others in the Botanic Gardens or elsewhere at a minimum.
Catering
- Everyone will be served individually at their tables and must be seated during meals.
- We'll provide you with order cards to fill out for beverage preferences.
