Deen & Design: Calligraphy Workshop with Deccan Arts
The Islamic Women’s Council of New Zealand is excited to announce the third and final workshop in our Deen & Design series — a hands-on Calligraphy Workshop in collaboration with Deccan Arts!
This workshop is designed to introduce participants to the classical art of Arabic calligraphy. You’ll explore its rich islamic history, learn about traditional tools, and enjoy practical experience using the bamboo qalam and ink. By the end of the session, each participant will create and take home a beautiful piece of their own calligraphy artwork.
What you’ll gain
- A meaningful introduction to Arabic calligraphy as an art form
- An appreciation of the spiritual and cultural significance of Islamic art
- Basic techniques and practice with strokes, alphabets, and words
- Hands-on experience with authentic tools and materials

About the Artist
Mizna, founder of Deccan Arts, is a contemporary calligraphy artist with over 12 years of experience in Islamic art. Her work blends traditional calligraphy with modern expression, and through her workshops she inspires participants to connect deeply with this timeless art form.
