Deen & Design: Tezhip Painting Workshop with Art.By.Asheera

The Islamic Women’s Council of New Zealand is excited to announce the second workshop in our Deen & Design series — a Tezhip Painting Workshop in collaboration with Art.By.Asheera!

Tezhip, often called the art of illumination, is a centuries-old Ottoman tradition used to adorn Qur’ans and manuscripts with delicate patterns, floral motifs, and touches of gold. In this workshop, you’ll be guided through creating a luminous design using mixed media, experiencing for yourself the beauty and mindfulness of this timeless art. By the end of the session, you’ll take home a finished piece of illuminated artwork.

What you’ll enjoy:

• Discovering the history and meaning behind Tezhip

• Step-by-step guidance in painting an illuminated design

• A mindful, creative space to slow down and reflect

• A beautiful artwork to treasure and take home

About the Artist:

Asheera is a contemporary Tezhip artist who first learnt this sacred Ottoman art in Istanbul. Inspired by both Turkish and Persian designs, she brings together classical techniques and her own modern expression. Her workshops are an invitation to connect with Islamic heritage through creativity, reflection, and beauty.
