Friday 9th June - 9am - 6pm

Description
This workshop will introduce artists and designers of all skill levels to the process of designing a character and an environment based on a specific story. We will cover a basic approach to design geared towards maximizing storytelling within the design and then integrated within a “story moment” as it may apply to film, animation, game design, and narrative illustration for publishing. The workshop will include demonstrations covering: Character design, Environment/world design to create a story moment with an emphasis in composition and staging, lighting and color design. Students will then choose from a selection of stories to design their character, environment, and story moment from.

Armand S. Baltazar

Armand S. Baltazar was born 1967 in Chicago. Always keen on drawing and painting at an early age, his parents encouraged his talents with trips to the Art Institute of Chicago. He earned a BFA in illustration at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena California. Here he discovered a passion for story telling with pictures. This love for vsisual storytelling would lead him into film.

Armand began his film career with DreamWorks SKG Animation as a Background Painter and later continued on as a Visual Development Artist and Sequence Art Director. He later worked as a Senior Designer and Art Director for Walt Disney Feature Animation and Image Movers Digital. Armand continued on as a set designing and art directing for Pixar Animation Studios recently completeing work on Pixar’s Academy Award winning film Inside Out and lastly The Good Dinosaur.

Armand is currently writing and illustrating an illustrated adventure novel series: TIMELESS for HarperCollins publishing and is an executive producer on the film adaptation of book one for Twentieth Century Fox. The film is a Scott Free production helmed by Ridley Scott and directed by carlos Saldahna.
