The New Zealand Aid Programme includes a portfolio of projects that are achieving excellent development outcomes in the Pacific and across the globe. The programme is significant in the NZ Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade’s efforts to achieve broader objectives such as advancing sustainable development through aid, trade, environment, diplomatic and security cooperation. The integration of the New Zealand Aid Programme within MFAT has in the past offered NZ governments a chance to promote trade agendas, project soft power, and build diplomatic partnerships.
This event will explore MFAT’s broader political and diplomatic objectives through the NZ Aid Programme, how that shapes NZ’s engagement as a development partner, and its implications for development effectiveness. The event will seek to appreciate the benefits to both the New Zealand public and partner country communities, as well as some of the trade-offs.
