Diana has spent much of her adult life abroad, living for many years in India and China. She holds an MA (Hons) in English from Victoria University of Wellington and a Ph.D. in classical Chinese poetry from the Australian National University. Diana has published eight collections of poetry, with her latest work, Deep Colour, released in April 2023. This fiercely sensory and meticulously crafted collection responds with graceful precision to the immediate physical world and meditates on time, beauty, and the nature of being.

Join us for an unforgettable session on the 5 July where Diana will share insights into her creative process, explore the power of words and the influences behind her poetry, and read a selection of her treasured poems.

About Diana

Diana Bridge has published eight collections of poetry, including a new & selected. The latest, Two or more islands, came out in in 2023. She has an MA (hons) in English from VUW and a Ph.D. in classical Chinese poetry from the Australian National University. She is the first foreigner to have taught in the Chinese Department at Hong Kong University. She has written essays on the China-based poems of Robin Hyde and William Empson, and completed a collaborative translation of a selection of classical poems. In 2015, Diana Bridge was invited to take up a residency at the Artists’ Colony at Yaddo, New York, the first New Zealander to attend since Janet Frame.

Bridge’s essay “An attachment to China” won the Landfall Essay Competition. She has been the recipient of the Lauris Edmond Memorial Award and in 2015 won the Sarah Broom Poetry Prize. She lives in Wellington.
