Event description

Description

The Department of Internal Affairs (DIA) Communications Team won two prestigious Gold Quill awards for their promotion of He Tohu exhibition. It is a permanent exhibition of three iconic constitutional documents that shape Aotearoa New Zealand: The Treaty of Waitangi, Women’s Suffrage Petition and Declaration of Independence of the United Tribes of New Zealand.

The project had its fair share of criticism and the team was called upon just eight weeks out, to change perception of the exhibition and ensure a successful launch.

The team employed a variety of marketing and communications techniques and initiatives to successfully change the narrative from a focus on escalating project costs to the importance of New Zealand’s three constitutional documents; success was demonstrated by positive media coverage. He Tohu received more than double the number of expected visitors in the first six months.

Join us to hear from the team behind the project. They’ll discuss each communication component of the project: the marketing, external media and internal comms so you can see how it all came together into an award-winning piece. They’ll talk through the project, its scope and challenges. And share how they found the process of entering the awards and the impact of winning their Gold Quills.

Plus, visit the He Tohu exhibition yourself. The National Library have extended the opening hours of the exhibition so all those who come along to hear about the award winning communications around He Tohu can visit the exhibition.

IABC’s Gold Quill Awards honour excellence in strategic communication worldwide. Gold Quills celebrate the dedication, innovation and passion of communicators on a global scale. Entries are evaluated against IABC’s Global Standard of excellence in communication. Winning a Gold Quill is recognition for exceptional work, innovation, creativity and success in clearly connecting communications strategy and delivery to achieving desired organisational outcomes.

Join us for drinks and networking from 5.30pm. The presentation will start at 6pm.

RSVP by 5pm Tuesday 16 October.
