Description

Book Talk

We often hear about the mysteries of tiny quantum states or the bewildering vastness of the cosmos, but there is so much more to how the nature of matter and energy affects our daily existence. Physics explores these fundamental connections and Dr Helen Czerski will discuss how they are woven into our lives - it's what makes the cream rise to the top of the milk, it dictates how tall a tree can be and it makes magnets stick to the fridge. Yet, these same principles also explain the motion of the ocean conveyer belt, how modern insulin tests work, and they also open the door to the technologies that will power our future. Through physics, these patterns become visible, and then a new perspective on the world beckons.

Dr Helen Czerski appears in conjunction with the Cosmic Shambles LIVE tour and is presented in partnership with Trunkman Productions (UK), the Atheist Foundation of Australia, Cerebral Events (NZ) and Victoria University of Wellington

Dr Helen Czerski is a British physicist, oceanographer, broadcaster and author of Storm in a Teacup – The Physics of Everyday Life (2016)
